In my previous blog post, I discussed being in the moment of your life and recovery, moment after moment. When you are doing the Recipe, defying the odds and healing yourself, and being grateful on the recovery journey, you are winning, winning, winning!
Doing the Recipe is winning!
Doing the soul, mind, and body healing protocol, the Parkinson’s Recipe for Recovery®, is winning, in and of itself.
Doing the Recipe can be a difficult process, but you are doing it. You are being strong in your faith, and you are deciding that you are worth the time and effort it takes to heal. As stated in my last blog post, you can control efforts, not outcomes.
Therefore, you need to be able to look at your efforts and say, “I am winning!”
Defying the odds and healing yourself is winning!
Socrates tells Dan in The Peaceful Warrior, “A warrior is not about perfection or victory or invulnerability. He’s about absolute vulnerability.” Also, part of winning your fight against Parkinson’s is being a warrior who is vulnerable, admitting that you are not perfect, and knowing that your best is good enough.
Vulnerable: Open to censure or criticism.
Let’s take a look at the journey to recovery from Parkinson’s. It begins by announcing, “I have the power to heal myself. I am going to cure myself from a disease the experts say is incurable.” This alone opens you up to censure and criticism from non-believers. However, just making that announcement means you already are winning.
In the middle of the journey, you feel better on the inside, but you are not looking so great on the outside. Also, in the middle of the journey, you announce, “I have the power to heal myself. I am going to cure myself from a disease the experts say is incurable. I have faith in my recovery and I understand that there are times when I am going to feel worse and look worse while I am getting better.” This alone opens you up to censure and criticism from non-believers. However, just making that announcement means you already are winning.
In the end, you announce, “I am cured.” This alone opens you up to censure and criticism from non-believers. However, just making that announcement means you already have won!
This is why your faith in your recovery has to be more powerful than other people’s opinions about what you should be doing about your Parkinson’s. Also, this is why you have to stop caring what the other people are thinking about you and what you are doing.
Gratitude for this life is winning!
When I had Parkinson’s, I became grateful for my life. Also, I realized that the greatest gift was having this life. Moreover, through my abundant gratitude, the door was opened for me to be able to surrender fear as well as everything over which I had no control.
Finally, the last issue from which I needed to let go, from which I needed to surrender, from which I needed to extricate from the very being I thought was Howard Shifke, was the fear of being me, authentically me.
When I let go, totally and completely, agreeing to be the real me and surrendering caring what anybody was going to think about me or my having cured myself, I had a shift…and my dopamine flowed overwhelmingly. It cascaded down my body and through my body. I was transformed from imbalance to balance, from illness to health, from thinking to feeling, from Parkinson’s to cured from Parkinson’s.
That was sixteen years ago. You can do it, too!
Fear blocks being vulnerable. You become afraid of the censure and criticism. Faith says it is okay to be vulnerable. Additionally, not only is it okay to be vulnerable, it is necessary in this recovery.
In the end, complete vulnerability means completely surrendering the person who you think you are and not being afraid what the other people will think when you again become the essence of who you are, on the inside. Moreover, this new you actually is the you who has been inside you since birth but who is covered up by a mountain of toxicity…chip away, day by day…be vulnerable, and do not be afraid.
Here is a quote Sally has shared with me:
“First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win.” Mahatma Gandhi
“First they ignore you” when you say you are going to cure yourself from Parkinson’s.
“Then they ridicule you” when they realize you are ignoring traditional conventions of what to do about Parkinson’s.
“Then they fight you” when they realize how strong your faith is and that you are actually curing yourself from Parkinson’s.
“And then you win,” you cure yourself from Parkinson’s, in part because you finally realize that those who ignore you, then ridicule you, and then fight you about curing yourself from Parkinson’s are nothing more than suffering beings themselves. However, instead of being in your mind and caring what they think and then changing what you are doing, you find compassion in your heart for their suffering…and then your dopamine flows…and then you WIN!!!
Please post a comment below letting us know how you are winning, winning, winning in your recovery from Parkinson’s.
Each and every one of you is winning, winning, winning!
You are worth it!!!
All my best,
Howard

I remember the day that I was first diagnosed sitting in the neurologist’s office and saying to him I am going to beat this. I didn’t know how I was going to do it but I was determined to not give up. After researching on the internet I found you Howard and suddenly there was hope that I could do it! I started the recipe and it has been a journey of self discovery and healing. Every day I am winning and I know that my full recovery will come. Thank you Howard for showing me the way I am worth it and I am winning, winning, winning
This is the encouragement I needed today. With the recent heat waves my symptoms are pretty severe. However I continue to do the Recipe every day, and I know that I am winning! I know that my body is healing itself. My mind is good. And my soul remains intact. I know that by doing the Recipe it is only a matter of time before my recovery takes place. The timing is not in my control and it is in God’s hands. Thank you Howard for sharing the Recipe and providing good leesons to help with the journey to recovery!
